What the draft says
The value is a string with the human-readable name of the agentic identity, suitable for display to end users. In the schema example, uniqueness is none.
Not a key
Because nothing makes displayName unique, two agents can share it. The draft gives the job of identifier to agentUserName. Use displayName for people and agentUserName for matching records.
How earlier drafts handled it
The Wahl draft recommended that clients support it. The Okta draft required a different attribute, name, and said displayName could fall back to it when unset. The joint draft requires displayName and adds agentUserName.
Example
From the instance example in the joint draft.
